Life Pieces To Masterpieces Included in President Obama's Father's Day Town Hall

Washington, D.C. June 19, 2009 - Sixteen of Life Pieces To Masterpieces apprentices, along with Elder Bill, and Executive Director Mary Brown were present at The White House as President Obama kicked off a national conversation about fatherhood and personal responsibility this past Friday. During the Town Hall, President Obama made a passionate plea to dads: American men should be better fathers than his own. President Obama, who was raised by his mother and by his maternal grandparents, has often written and spoken emotionally about his father's absence. President Obama's message "resonated so deeply with our young men and aligned so closely with the values that we teach at Life Pieces: as our apprentices grow we want them to become gentlemen, scholars, athletes, and artists. Part of being a gentleman is being a good, responsible, and present father," said Brown. "To have President Obama impress this message upon our young men in person was an experience that I will never forget."
